Mentors: Week 1

WEEK 1 – Go through these additional lessons at your own pace.

THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING TO MENTOR OTHERS!  YOU ARE AWESOME!

LISTEN to DISCUSSION for MENTORS

As you go through the eCourse again, do any lesson(s) you may have skipped, then click on the “Giving Game Additional Lessons for Mentors” button for more ideas that will assist you in supporting others!

You will have to discover your own ‘timing’ in all of this, but here are a few suggestions:

1. Keep a WRITTEN CHECKLIST!!

2. INVITATIONS: Don’t invite anyone to play the game unless you are totally grounded, committed and willing to ALLOW the Giving Game to teach you about yourself! (It will! You will be ‘playing’ on a whole new level when you invite others to join you – so go through the eCourse WITH them, and click on the MENTORS LINK daily.)

3. GATHERING YOUR PLAYERS! Always get in touch on the phone – don’t send emails or text. SHARE your experience.

4. If your friend is interested, suggest they DOWNLOAD “How to Feel Better When Things Get Worse.” They will know whether or not they are aligned with the message.

5. If they want to play the game, suggest they begin the eCourse right away – prior to the entire group starting.

6. When the entire group starts, individuals can start over again (they just need to unsubscribe) or just keep going. (This gives everyone a chance to get ‘ahead’ rather than worrying that they are ‘getting behind’ (a common experience – prior to creating more ‘time and space!’)

IMPORTANT: You will need to pick a day/time that works for as many people as possible. I highly suggest you have one CONSISTENT Time/Day when you all agree to meet.

Do not try to meet ‘here and there’ according to people’s schedules. Instead, just work with the people who can be on the weekly calls. Invite anyone who can’t make it to join a subsequent game – tailored to their schedule.

[Note: If your life goes ‘crazy’ (it can happen!) consider taking a break from having an ‘official’ group (or make it more informal) until you have a chance to ‘catch your breath!’ Notice whether you’re feeling obligated to ‘stick with it’ rather than nurturing yourself. (e.g. there is a death in your family; you are suddenly ‘between homes,’ in the midst of relationship issues, or health upheaval.) Take care of yourself first! Come back when you are fully ready!]

When you are ready to go, give everyone a BUDDY prior to your 1st Weekly Conference Call.

1. Make sure you give Buddy’s each other’s information. Phone, email, facebook etc.

2. Tell them to set up a time/day and then TALK on the PHONE! (That’s right! No texting or emails, a good old fashioned phone call!)

3. Tell them that they will be INTRODUCING each other! (This is a great way to motivate everyone to pick up the phone and talk!)

You may have heard this before, but listen again!  This applies especially in regard to mentoring a Giving Game group! AS YOU GIVE SO SHALL YOU RECEIVE
